Colorado Head Coach Mark Wetmore pre-meet - NCAA D1 XC Mountain RegionalPublished by
Mark Wetmore of Colorado is the only current coach to have won four NCAA titles at the same school. In his 22nd year at Colorado and 19th as a head coach he has coached 228 all-American performances and 18 NCAA titles. His teams have won five NCAA XC titles since 2000 (all between 2000 and 2006). His success proved to others you could train and live consistently at altitude with kids from the states. He looks fit and clearly is fit and has run every day for 30+ years. It was thought it might be difficult for him to continue his success after Colorado joined the Pac-12 but it has had no effect and the Buffaloes have won the last three Pac-12 titles. Without confirmation of using his sarcastic (and thoroughly funny) answers I had to shorten the interview to his serious answers.
Adam Schneider (AS) - Talk about the season - have you fullfilled or even exceeded your expectations? - also any surprises AS - You are moving to 10k - Do you feel the team is prepared (injuries or health potentially affect that) - especially the freshman Saarel? AS - Tell me how your freshmen are adjusting - particularly Ben Saarel and Erin Clark AS - Do you feel you can knock of Oklahoma State - what will it take? A better question may be, what does your team need to do to get its best performance at the NCAA meet?
